UMNO pulls support for Perikatan Nasional

The survival of the Perikatan Nasional government now hangs in the balance.

This, after UMNO announced that it is pulling its support for PN and called on Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to step down.

UMNO has 38 MPs in the Dewan Rakyat while several of its senior leaders hold Cabinet positions.

If they all choose to stand by the party and pull out, it could lead to the fall of the current government.

So far, none of the senior UMNO leaders have publicly commented on where they stand.

This includes Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein, who were yesterday appointed as Deputy Prime Minister and Senior Minister of Foreign Affairs, respectively.

Meanwhile, UMNO has not indicated who it prefers as an interim Prime Minister, although it does not support Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Hospitals in KL, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Labuan have exceeded their limit in treating Covid-19 patients amid a rise in new cases.

The Health Director General warns that the health system in these four states could be paralyzed if the situation persists.

This, as 7,097 Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, with most of the infections detected in Selangor and KL.

It was the second day in a row cases have exceeded the seven thousand mark.

The entire district of Seremban in Negeri Sembilan will be placed under an EMCO from tomorrow until July 22^nd.

The Senior Minister for Security says other locations in Pahang, Johor and Sabah will also be placed under the Enhanced MCO during the same period.
