Covid-positive candidates can contest in Melaka polls
Nov 08, 2021
Candidates who test positive for Covid-19 will not be barred from contesting in the Melaka state election.
However, the Election Commission says the candidates’ nomination papers should be submitted by the stipulated time through their proposer or seconder.
It adds, a special tent managed by the EC and Health Ministry, has been set up at nomination centres should a candidate turn up with Covid-19 symptoms today.
Covid-19 screening for candidates is not mandatory but is encouraged.
28 nomination centres will open at 9am today.
Gatherings and processions by supporters of contesting political parties at the centres will not be allowed.
4,343 new Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday.
It was the third straight day of decline, and brings the total number of cases past the 2.5 million mark.
According to the CovidNOW website, the highest number of cases yesterday was reported in Selangor, followed by Sabah and Sarawak.
The Health Ministry says Ivermectin is not a miracle drug for the treatment of Covid-19.
Its principal investigator asserts that promoting it as such will only create a lot of false assurance among those taking it.
