Our transition to the endemic phase of Covid-19 will be paused.

Defense Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein says this is due to concerns over the new Omicron variant.

Malaysia is also tightening its borders by preventing entry to visitors from countries that have recorded Omicron cases.

There are currently no Omicron cases here in Malaysia.

Malaysia reported a rise in Covid-19 cases yesterday, with 4,879 infections.

Only 1.6% of them reported moderate to severe symptoms.

The Japanese Encephalitis or JE cases in Kedah are under control.

However, state officials say residents there should take preventive measures to avoid being infected with the virus.
So far, 10 JE cases involving three fatalities were reported in Kedah this year.
