Parliament considers increased compound for Covid-19 SOP violations
Dec 15, 2021
The government has tabled a proposed amendment to the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act.
Those who flout SOPs would be subject to a fine of up to RM 10,000, while companies that do the same face up to a whopping RM1 million compound.
Currently, both individuals and companies are subjected to a maximum penalty of RM1,000.
The Health Ministry says the amendment is necessary to act as a deterrent against offences that could lead to a spike in disease infection.
Malaysia reported a slight rise in daily Covid-19 cases yesterday with 4,079 infections.
Only 2.1% of them reported moderate to severe symptoms.
A tax exemption of up to RM1,000 will be given to individuals who take Covid-19 tests for personal, spouse or children.
The Finance Ministry says this exemption, which is effective for the 2022 and 2023 years of assessment, is among the provisions under the proposed Finance Bill 2021.
