Weather officials: Expect monsoon surge today
Dec 27, 2021
Weather officials are expecting a monsoon surge today until next Monday.
The MET Department says a low-pressure weather system is also developing in the South China Sea.
The situation has the potential to cause continuous rain in eastern Sabah for a week and in western Sarawak for three days from Wednesday.
A special task force for post-flood activities and to prepare for a second wave of floods will be set up.
The PM says the team will be chaired by the Chief Secretary to the Govt, and comprise relevant agencies including the Armed Forces.
The task force is set to have its first meeting today, to discuss matters like post-flood cleanups, and a quick disbursement mechanism for the financial aid.
The Education Ministry will examine the need to postpone the 2021/2022 school session's third term.
Its Minister says this will be based on how badly schools are affected by the recent floods.
He adds that appropriate action will be taken for schools that remain unprepared and will be looked at on a case-by-case basis.
