Britain has bid a final farewell to Queen Elizabeth II.
The late monarch, who passed away at the age of 96 earlier this month, has been laid to rest at Windsor Castle, alongside her late husband Prince Philipp.
It marked the end of an elaborate ceremony that began yesterday evening, that included a procession and state funeral.
Some two thousand special invitees, including members of royalty and heads of state from around the world, attended the official ceremony at Westminster Abbey.
Among them, our very own Yang DiPertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong.
Huge crowds also lined the streets of central London and along the route to Windsor Castle yesterday…to pay their last respects as the Queen’s coffin was taken past.
The events culminated in a private ceremony for close members of family early this morning, before the late monarch was placed in her final resting place at St George’s Chapel.
Queen Elizabeth II was Britain’s longest-reigning monarch and her funeral, was equally as historic.
For one, this is the first state funeral there since the death of Sir Winston Churchill in 1965.
Figures have yet to be tallied, but billions of people are estimated to have tuned in on television and LIVE streams from around the world, likely making the Queen’s funeral the most-watched broadcast of all time.
The funeral also required the biggest security operation the UK has ever seen, with more than 10 thousand police officers on duty on the day.
Their presence was crucial, to maintain security for the huge crowds, said to be upwards of a million people, who packed central London and around the royal palaces for the procession and ceremonies.
The conclusion of the funeral marks the end of the UK’s official period of mourning, which began on September 8th.
Its also the beginning of a new era for Britain under the reign of King Charles III.
