More Malaysians are applying for passports

Outbound travel appears to be slowly returning to normal, with more than 2.5 million Malaysian passports issued last year.

The Home Ministry says this is a 25 percent increase from 2019.

Meanwhile, 20 Immigration passport-issuing offices in several states will operate on Saturdays and Sundays, starting next week.

The extended operating hours, in selected branches in Putrajaya, KL, Selangor, Johor, Melaka, Perak, Penang and Kedah…is to address congestion due to the high number of passport applications.

The over 100 thousand ringgit in school aid, that had been stolen from a headmaster in an incident in Selangor this week, will be reimbursed.

The Education Ministry says the funds will be distributed to students before the school session starts in March.

It says its also opened its own investigation into the theft, and will announce the findings of the probe at a later date.

The Fire And Rescue Department is hoping to add a further 12 sniffer dogs…following the success of its K9 unit in the search for victims of the recent Batang Kali landslide.

The department also wants to recruit over three thousand additional personnel, to improve their emergency response.

The Education Ministry is proposing an additional 50 sen per head for the school supplementary food program, to help combat malnutrition in kids.
