The government is looking at ways to gradually reduce the national debt.

However, the PM says for now there are no plans to bring back the Goods and Services Tax, which was abolished in 2018.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also ruled out raising other taxes that would burden the lower income group. 

Speaking of which, the Inland Revenue Board has identified over 180 thousand people who failed to pay income or real capital gains tax last year. 

Its chief told Utusan Malaysia, it involved arrears of around RM8 billion.
