six states agree to dissolve assemblies

Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu and Selangor are all expected to dissolve their respective legislative assemblies in about four month’s time, ahead of state elections.

The Selangor Menteri Besar says MB’s and Chief Ministers of the six states have reached an understanding to consider dissolving their respective assemblies in the last two weeks of June.

He posted on Facebook that the understanding will be discussed by the respective political parties, before being presented to the heads of states.

We may soon need to only renew our drivers’ license every 10 years.

The Transport Minister says this is one of the proposals being considered to encourage motorists to renew their licenses for a longer period.

There could even be a discount for those who renew for 10 years at a time.

Anthony Loke adds that his ministry is also studying the current road tax structure to possibly reduce its cost in the near future.

They are also looking into lowering road taxes for electric vehicles to encourage EV ownership.

The bill related to the abolition of the mandatory death penalty will be tabled for first reading in Parliament next month.

Deputy Minister in the PM’s Department for Law and Institutional Reform Ramkarpal Singh says the bill is expected to be passed in April and gazetted by May…after which convicts can file an application to use the new provisions.

Taxation on vape products may be implemented, after the Health Ministry is done examining the legal issues related to the substances.

Deputy Finance Minister Steven Sim says there may be an announcement on this in tomorrow’s Budget tabling.
