Johor recovers from floods

Johor has completely recovered from the recent flooding, with all remaining evacuation centers in Batu Pahat now closed.
Authorities say the last batch of 140 or so evacuees were allowed to return home at around noon yesterday.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Agency says there are currently some 77 victims at evacuation centers in Sibu, Sarawak.
This, after heavy rain caused flooding at two local longhouses.

The Deputy Prime Minister has defended the appointment of several politicians to key positions in government-linked companies or regulatory bodies.
Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says only those with the right background, qualifications and experience are appointed, based on guidelines by the Cabinet.
This, following the recent appointment of Parit Sulong MP Datuk Noraini Ahmad as RISDA chairperson, and UMNO’s Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki as MARA chairman.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry says it will make an announcement in two weeks, regarding the ceiling price of essential items for the Aidilfitri festive period.
It also assured that supply of chicken is sufficient, based on data from the Veterinary Department and industry players.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is due to arrive in Cambodia today, for his first official visit there since becoming Prime Minister.
This is also his seventh official overseas trip since taking office in November last year.
