Ops Selamat: Slight drop in accidents

1,389 traffic accidents were reported nationwide on the second day of Ops Selamat.

Bukit Aman says this is down slightly from the 1,900-plus accidents on the first day of the festive season traffic operation.

In a related development, the Malaysian Highway Authority has reminded that the second Hari Raya toll-free period for most major highways will be tomorrow.

The first period, which began on the 19^th, came to an end on Friday night.

Segamat in Johor is the only area so far to record unhealthy API readings.

At last look, 42 other areas had moderate air quality, while 12 other locations are enjoying good air quality levels.

Meanwhile, four areas in Kelantan, two in Terengganu and one district in Sabah are currently under a level-one heat alert, with temperatures of between 35 to 37 degrees Celsius.

The de-facto Law Minister says the government will open an investigation into allegations that the bail counter at the KL Court Complex had closed early before the Hari Raya break, resulting in six accused having to spend the long weekend in jail.

The Johor government urged residents in the state to continue wearing face masks in public areas, to protect themselves from Covid over the festive season.

And, 12 people had to be rescued by firemen, after they were trapped at a waterfall in Selangor, due to a water surge caused by heavy downpour.
