The Selangor Menteri Besar has denied speculation that the state assembly would be dissolved next Monday to pave the way for the state election.

Datuk Seri Amiruddin Shari rubbished the claims, adding that no official announcement will be made before meeting the Sultan of Selangor.

Selangor is one of six states, including Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, who must hold state elections this year.

The government is hoping to rope in up to 200 companies under the Academy In Industry program to train school leavers to become skilled workers.

The Economy Minister says under the program, SPM graduates will be trained by the companies for 18 months, after which they will receive their level-one Malaysian Skills Certificate.

Rafizi Ramli adds that this training-on-the-job option appears to be more in line with what the current generation wants.

The Education Ministry is still studying the feasibility of making it mandatory for students to complete eleven years of schooling until Form Five.

Currently, schooling is only compulsory until Standard Six, with some students dropping out once they hit secondary school, mainly due to poverty.

The Ministry says its also continuing to extend aid to needy students to help keep them in school, including offering scholarships, school uniform aid and the supplementary food program.

The de-facto Law Minister says the specific Act for the setting up of an independent Children's Commission, is expected to be presented in Parliament soon.

The Transport Ministry says any decision on having multiple rail operators in order to boost competitiveness, will only be made after getting the results of an ongoing feasibility study.

The Works Ministry says the government has no current plans to take over any of the country’s highways, because it is not economically feasible to do so at the moment.

And, former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi – who held office four times -  has died at the age of 86.
