De-criminalizing Attempted Suicide - Final Bill Approved

The Dewan Negara has passed the third and final bill on de-criminalizing suicide attempts.
The latest – the Mental Health Amendment Bill 2023 – was passed by the Senate yesterday…and is aimed at empowering crisis intervention officers to apprehend and rescue individuals attempting to commit suicide.
The three bills will now be sent to the King for consent, before being gazetted.

The Health Ministry will study the proposal, that the control of cigarettes and e-cigarettes be done simultaneously via the Generational Endgame policy.
It says it is considering the views of all parties before the Smoking Products Control Bill for Public Health is approved.

The Finance Ministry says registration for the E-tunai Belia Rahmah program for tertiary students and those aged 18-20 will begin this coming Monday.

Met Malaysia says Kuala Krai in Kelantan… and Jempol, Negeri Sembilan are the only two areas nationwide under a level-one heat alert.

Meanwhile, Singapore’s Institute of International Affairs says the republic, Malaysia and Indonesia may face the most severe haze in recent years, due to the likelihood of a strong El Nino phenomenon that will bring hotter and drier weather.
