The government is considering a new act to impose civil penalties on those who touch on race, religion or the royal institution.

De-facto Law Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said says this is to make it easier for authorities to impose fines on those who play up 3R issues.

Such offences are currently investigated under the Sedition Act – which is geared more towards criminal offences, that require lengthy legal procedures.

Separately, deputy law and institutional reform minister Ramkarpal Singh is urging amendments to the Mental Health Act to define “mental incapacity”.

He says dementia, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and depression should be included in the definition, to allow for the better management of the personal affairs of those who become mentally incapacitated.

There were over 7,500 love-scams reported in the country between 2018 and June this year.

Bukit Aman says the cases involved losses of over 380 million ringgit…with women making up the majority of the victims.

The cops, however, are not ruling out the possibility that male victims may have been more reluctant to come forward.

The Foreign Ministry says group of Malaysians who had gone missing in bad weather during a hiking trip in northern India…have been found safe.

Wisma Putra also clarified that there were only 10 Malaysians in the group of 12…with the others being a Chinese and British national.

The Transport Minister says upgraded artificial intelligence-based traffic light cameras are not new… and had been set up even before he helmed the ministry.

Anthony Loke explained that the cameras were implemented at selected traffic lights as a proof-of-concept.

He said this in response to a viral message that the JPJ had started a widespread effort to install AI-based CCTV cameras at traffic lights.
