E-commerce Laws To Be Strengthened

The government will review and improve the relevant laws concerning e-commerce, to protect consumers and industry players amid the sector’s rapid growth.
This, as online transactions made up 35 percent of total complaints received by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry so far this year.
It says it will also work with e-commerce platform providers, industry players and consumer associations to enhance the legislation.

The government may have to bear up to 100 billion ringgit in subsidies every year, unless the subsidy system is reformed.
The Economy Minister explains that current fuel subsidies alone is costing over 80 billion, with the expenditure expected to rise with the anticipated hike in world crude oil prices.

In a related development, The Prime Minister has given his assurance that there would be no hike in local rice prices, saying he’s directed the relevant officials to monitor the market.

The government will soon offer special programs for caretakers of children, the elderly and those with special needs.
The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry says the programs are expected to start next year…to ensure these caretakers have the necessary training and skills.

And, Blake…one of the Fire Department’s rescue dogs involved in the search and rescue operation during last year’s Batang Kali landslide…has died after a battle with cancer.
The purebred English Springer Spaniel was even awarded a Golden Performance medal by the government for its services during the tragedy.
