Airlines To Start Charging Carbon Tax

Airlines can start charging a carbon tax from April.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke says this will happen once amendments to MAVCOM’s regulations are finalized.

He clarified the carbon levy is not collected by the government, but by the airlines themselves, to offset their carbon emissions.

Loke also explained that the levy is an international obligation and applicable to all airlines, not only in Malaysia.

Separately, the Transport Ministry is said to have given the go-ahead in principle, for a new 2 billion ringgit smart container port in Port Dickson.

The Negeri Sembilan MB says the port will be the first in the country to utilize artificial intelligence.

The IGP has remined assembly organisers that they need to give five days’ notice about any major gatherings…even if no permit is required for the event.

He says this is so that the cops have sufficient time to deploy personnel and organize road closures to ensure the event goes on smoothly and safely.

The Education Ministry already has guidelines regarding the use of social media by teachers, adding that authorities are actively monitoring the situation to prevent misuse.

It said this in response to a proposal by the NUTP to restrict teachers from posting about school-related issues on social media, to avoid educational institutions being painted in a bad light.

Malaysia, along with Brazil, Thailand and India are conducting studies on repurposing a Hepatitis C drug to treat dengue patients.
