Child Marriages On The Decline

The number of child marriages in the country has been on the decline in recent years.
The Women, Family and Community Development Minister says total marriages involving those under the age of 18... is down by nearly 30 percent from 2019 to 2022.
She also explains that there’s been a multi-agency approach to address the issue, which includes awareness campaigns, keeping kids in school, and providing counselling and advice to help those affected.

The National Registration Department says more than 27 thousand late birth certificate registration applications have been sent in since 2022.
It cited poverty and family problems as some of the reasons for the delay in registrations.
The Department is also urging community leaders and NGO’s to contact the NRD, if they know of individuals who have not yet registered their births.

Pahang has successfully eradicated hardcore poverty.
The MB says this comes after the nearly two thousand hardcore poor households there, managed to boost their income to exit the category.
