Jun 04, 2024

new license plates & road tax for evs!

The government will introduce special license plate frames for electric vehicles to differentiate them from other vehicles.

The Transport Ministry says more details on the matter will be revealed soon.

Earlier, minister Anthony Loke said that the unique license plates will be helpful for identification purposes during rescue operations in the event of an incident.

In a related development, Loke revealed that the new road tax structure for EVs will, on average, be 85% lower than the current rates.

He adds that the government will ensure that the rates remain effective by reviewing them every five years.

The new framework will come into effect starting 2026.

The government has no plans to extend the deadline for foreign workers to arrive in Malaysia.

The Home Ministry says the May 31st deadline was announced a long time ago, and that employers had plenty of time to settle everything.

This, despite an appeal from Bangladesh to allow a one-off entry for nearly 17 thousand workers with approved visas who missed the deadline.

The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry is looking into the incident where a disabled e-hailing driver was allegedly assaulted by a VVIP’s bodyguard.

Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri says she's requested her officers to investigate the matter to see if there’s anything the ministry can do to help the driver
