Genting Bus Crash: Anthony Loke Ticks Off Tour Agency

The Land Public Transport Agency has been ordered to take the harshest possible penalty against the tour agency involved in Saturday's fatal bus crash near Genting Highlands.  

The Transport Minister says the agency failed to comply with the regulations, as the vehicle's permit had expired while the driver did not have a license.  

2 Chinese tourists died in the accident while 13 other passengers were injured.  

Meanwhile the JPJ will kick off a nationwide operation tomorrow to check tour buses, to ensure they are all compliant with the regulations.

The government has NO plans to impose an age limit for drivers.  

The Transport Ministry says it would not be practical, because there are many reasons why the elderly should continue to drive.  

Advocates for an age limit for drivers claim that this will help prevent road crashes.  

Meanwhile, a road safety advocacy NGO urged authorities to introduce regular health checks for elderly drivers.  

The Malaysian Road and Transportation Safety Association says senior citizens should also undergo refresher courses and re-testing, if they want to continue to drive.

Nearly 1,800 road crashes were reported yesterday.  

Meanwhile according to Bukit Aman traffic police, 15 people died in fatal crashes. 

This means that 49 thousand accidents happened nationwide throughout the month of June, which is down by around 8% compared to May.  

However, there was a 10% increase in fatalities, with 451 people dying on our roads last month.  

Meanwhile 190,000 crashes have now been reported since PDRM started releasing daily accident numbers in mid-March, with 1,600 deaths.

The Higher Education Minister says he will work with the Ministry of Educatin to ensure that local public universities have enough space to accommodate all SPM top scorers.  

It's to ensure that every high-achieving student can get the best possible education...  

This, after the PM announced that all SPM students who score at least 10 A’s will be guaranteed a matriculation place regardless of race or religion.   

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also assured the move will NOT impact the Bumiputera quota for matriculation studies.
