Zahid: "Review The Education Policy!"

Sep 16, 2024

zahid: review the education policy!Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called for a review of the education policy on examinations for Primary 6 and Form 3 students.

He says this is necessary following revelations that 27% of Year 1 pupils nationwide have problems with reading, writing and counting.

The DPM adds that the Education and Higher Education Ministries have also identified these three issues as the reasons why over 10,100 students failed to sit for the SPM exams last year.

---

On a separate matter, Zahid says no decision has been made yet to mandate halal certification for food establishments.

He clarified that the Cabinet will discuss the matter at its meeting later this week.

He adds that the Prime Minister has also instructed the Religious Affairs Minister to provide an update on the status of the proposal during the meeting.

Last week, the minister announced that officials are considering a proposal for halal certs to be made mandatory for eateries that do not serve pork or alcohol.

The IGP says 384 of the over 400 children rescued during a raid recently have completed their health screenings, revealing signs of neglect and abuse.

He adds that so far, police have recorded statements from nearly 500 people regarding the incident.

He also told The Star that cops are currently trying to locate the parents of the children, and that DNA samples have been collected from the victims to identify them.

Last week, authorities raided 20 welfare homes in Selangor and Negri Sembilan where they rescued the victims, who were abused, exploited, and sexually assaulted

They also arrested over 170 suspects in connection with the case.

The homes are believed to be linked to a local charity and business organization.

Elsewhere, US authorities have confirmed that former President Donald Trump is safe following another apparent assassination attempt.

They add that the potential suspect has been arrested after they spotted his rifle pokin through the bushes at Trump's golf course.
