rich kids shouldn't get subsidies to enter elite schools

The government is looking to plug leakages in educational aid, that allows rich families to take advantage of programmes meant for the poor.

PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says this includes leakages that basically subsidised the entry of students from high-income families into elite government schools.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim adds that the government will continue to phase out blanket aid programmes and move towards targeted assistance.

The Higher Education Ministry will conduct monitoring to dermine if any university lecturers or students are involved in GISB.

It adds that so far, it has NOT received any reports on the matter.

This, amid the ongoing police investigation into the scandal-hit company, which allegedly has ties to a banned religious movement.

Also, the Higher Education Ministry has told UiTM Sabah and Universiti Malaysia Sabah to identify and give the necessary assistance to students from low-income families.

This is after a UMS student made headlines for using a sack to carry her belongings to her dorm.

Penang police say a man has apologised, after viral videos allegedly showed him driving a car with a dog tied to its rear bumper

According to the owner, a relative leashed the dog to the car to stop it from loitering near a neighbour’s house, and didn’t know about it when he drove the car to a nearby shop.
