KPDN May Consider Tougher Halal Cert Penalties

kpdn may consider tougher halal cert penalties

 

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry says it will consider calls to raise the fine for misusing the Halal logo. 

However, it pointed out that the current penalties are already quite heavy. 

Under current laws, individuals can face up to a RM100,000 fine and one year's jail, while for companies it's a RM200,000 fine.  

It was responding to a suggestion Federal Territories deputy mufti, following the controversy over sandwiches that were sold at a convenience store in University Malaya.

PDRM's Ops Selamat for the upcoming Chinese New Year holiday will take place from January 28th until the 2nd of February. 

During the operation cops will focus on 6 main traffic offences, including speeding, misusing the emergency lane, overtaking on double-lines, queue cutting and beating red lights.  

PDRM also reminded motorists to follow all traffic rules for the safety of each and every road user.

Two people have been injured by a fallen tree along Jalan Pudu, KL.  

The Fire and Rescue Department says the victims, a 39-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl, have been taken to hospital for treatment.  

It's the latest case of a fallen tree in the city in recent months.   

This includes an incident on Jalan Sultan Ismail in May, in which a motorist died, and two others were hurt.

Police have arrested six staff members of a tour agency, over an alleged umrah scam that left 300 pilgrims stranded recently.  

The six suspects, and a married couple who own the agency, have been remanded for three days to help investigations.

Malaysia has welcomed the ceasefire deal that ended 15 months of conflict in Gaza. 

Wisma Putra says it also hopes that the ceasefire will allow for the delivery of urgent humanitarian aid to Palestinians amid the winter season. 

Meanwhile, US president Joe Biden, and president-elect Donald Trump have both hailed the ceasefire agreement. 

However, both of them are claiming credit for pushing the deal through.  

The ceasefire will come into effect on Sunday, if it's approved by Israel's cabinet.

And reps of Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan say he is now in stable condition, after being stabbed multiple times by an intruder who broke into his home in Mumbai, India.  

He went through extensive surgery for injuries including to his neck and spine.
