trump announces sweeping new tariffs

US president Donald Trump has announced sweeping new tariffs of at least 10 percent on practically all foreign goods going into America.

This includes a 10 and 20 percent tariff respectively for imports from its traditional trade partners the UK and EU…and a 34 percent rate on shipments from China.

Malaysia, meanwhile, will be hit with a 24 percent tariff.

Police say there were no fatalities in the Putra Heights pipeline fire.

The Subang Jaya police chief says K9 units did a sweep of the area…and have not detected any human remains in the affected homes so far.

He adds that there’s also been a decline in the number of victims receiving treatment in hospital, with many of those with minor injuries allowed to be discharged.

He also says still around 530 affected residents being housed at two nearby relief centers.

The two Rottweilers that attacked an injured five people in Baling, Kedah earlier this week, have been put down.

The Kedah Veterinary Services Department adds that samples have also been collected from the dogs to check for rabies.

Meanwhile, the NST reports that all five victims remain in hospital, where they are being closely monitored for possible infections.

Malaysians in South Korea have been urged to stay vigilant, ahead of anticipated political demonstrations there tomorrow.

The Malaysian Embassy in Seoul says our citizens are also advised to avoid any of the protest sites and to be cautious in areas where there are large gatherings.

The Transport Ministry says search for MH370 has been halted, and will only resume at the end of the year…due to unfavorable weather conditions in the Indian Ocean.

The suspension comes just days after the government officially signed the agreement with Ocean Inifinity, to look for the plane that has been missing since 2014.
