Preparations Underway For ASEAN Summit

The government is stepping up preparations for the ASEAN Summit later this month.
This includes a heavy security presence for the event in KL, with multiple agencies and departments to be on high alert to ensure the event goes on safely and smoothly.
Schools located along the routes that will be affected by the summit, will also be allowed to switch to remote learning.
The government is also urging companies to allow their employees to work from home, in anticipation of the traffic congestion caused by road closures.

There's no need to worry about the nation's rice stockpile.
The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry assured that there's enough rice to meet domestic needs for over 6 months.
This, amid concerns regarding the ongoing crisis in Pakistan and India, which are among the world's largest rice producers.
In fact, the ministry told NST that nearly 40% of Malaysia's imported rice came from these two countries.

In a related development, the Foreign Ministry has advised Malaysians against all non[1]essential travel to India and Pakistan – especially the border areas - in the wake of the recent strikes there.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the conflict has risen to almost 40 across both India and Pakistan.

And the retail prices of RON97 petrol as well as diesel in the Peninsular have been reduced by eight sen per litre respectively for the week ending May 14th.
