Form 5 and 6 students return to school today!

Jun 24, 2020

As schools begin to reopen in phases starting today, the Health Ministry has reminded students and school staff to strictly adhere to its Covid-19 guidelines.

Temperature checks, social distancing, frequent hand sanitising as well as staggered break hours are among the steps included in the guidelines.

As such, the Health Director-General says students can be more confident about returning to school without any doubts or worries.

Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also noted that local Covid-19 statistics have shown that cases involving teens aged 16 to 18 have a better recovery rate.

Form 5 and Upper 6 students are returning to school today following a 3-month closure due to the pandemic.

The Malaysian Trades Union Congress, MTUC has welcomed the government’s move to freeze recruitment of foreign workers.

Its secretary-general J. Solomon told us this would help to check Malaysia’s dependency on unskilled migrant workers

"Many of the jobs done by migrant workers, are blue collar jobs, in manufacturing, construction, plantation and services sectors. Low wages is the sticking points which discourage Malaysians from taking up sch jobs including those termed as 3D meaning dirty, dangerous and demeaning. Sadly, we have not seen any collective effort by employers to do so."

He says the announcement by the Human Resources Ministry will also open doors for a comprehensive review of the need to improve salaries and encourage Malaysians to take over jobs traditionally filled by foreigners.

The Ministry said it has frozen the hiring of new foreign workers until the end of the year to give priority to locals to fill up these vacancies.

Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is ready to end his working relationship with PKR if it continues to oppose his candidature for the prime minister post.

In an exclusive interview with Sin Chew Daily, the nonagenarian said he would stop collaborating with PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim if the current political impasse is not resolved and explore other means to become PM for the third time.

Tun M says he is also prepared to exit the Pakatan Harapan plus alliance, if the option for him to be PM again fails.
