Most school-going children return to school today

Jul 15, 2020

Most schoolgoing children will return to school today, except those in Years 1 to 4.

PAGE Honorary Secretary Tunku Munawirah Putra says parents shouldn't be overly paranoid about sending their kids to school, but to just hope for the best.

"We hope that the SOPs are followed through and checks and balances would come from the teachers and students to adhere to the social distancing and good hand hygiene. There are reports on social media that classes cannot accomodate the initial max 20 students."

"We hope that as long as the class is big enough to accomodate more student with the prescribed 1 metre social distancing then it would be safe to do so."

Meanwhile, nearly 140 schools in Sarawak will not reopen today due to Covid-19 fears and will reopen on August 3rd instead.

Schools have been given the option of reopening with single, dual or rotational sessions to ensure social distancing.

De facto law minister Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan says 43 MPs have yet to declare their assets.

PM Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had announced in March that all ministers are required to declare their assets and following that, the declarations will be made available on the MACC website.

However, Takiyuddin says the display of assets by the Cabinet will only be done once it decides new methods to display their total assets and income.

The Finance Ministry has urged the public to be more alert and to check before making any financial transactions to avoid being a victim of an online scam.

It says recently there has been several cases of people being conned of huge sums of money - a 90-year-old retiree lost almost RM4 million in a Macau scam.

Meanwhile, the Ministry says deferred loan repayments under the moratorium, which took effect on April 1 are estimated to have reached RM55.2 billion as of Monday.
