Sabah dissolves State Legislative Assembly

The Sabah State Legislative Assembly has been dissolved.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal says this is after he obtained consent from the governor this morning.
Datuk Seri Shafie will stay on as caretaker Chief Minister until the state election, which must be held within 60 days.
Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman says there is no need for a snap election, as he claims to have a simple majority to form a new government, with the support of 33 assemblymen.
Active COVID-19 cases now at 223
Eight new COVID-19 cases were reported today, raising the number of active infections to 223.
Of the new cases, five are local transmissions, three of which were detected in Sabah.
The death toll still stands at 124.
UMNO not part of PN coalition
UMNO has announced it will not be a part of the formalised Perikatan Nasional coalition.
Its President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says they will instead focus on strengthening the Muafakat Nasional coalition with PAS and other BN component parties.
He adds that it will discuss Bersatu's wishes to join Muafakat Nasional.
