Govt still discussing lowering face mask ceiling price

Sep 04, 2020

The government is still discussing about the proposal to reduce the ceiling price of three-layer face mask to under RM1.

The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry says this needs to be done carefully to ensure local manufacturers produce face mask at a reasonable cost.

It says this will also depend on the capability of manufacturers and availability of the product in the market.

On a separate matter, the Ministry says the govt has no authority to control and set the ceiling price of services by hair salons, which is said to be expensive during the Recovery MCO.

The Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister has apologised to a teen in Sabah over an inaccurate statement he made in the Dewan Negara.

He says he had received wrong info about the girl and had wrongly accused her of trying to get publicity by climbing a tree to get better internet connectivity for an online exam.

Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin adds that he will rectify his statement when the Dewan Negara convenes next Monday.

Two months ago, the Sabahan student had posted a video on her YouTube channel, showing how she had to climb a tree to get good internet coverage.

MACC denies claims of intimidation made by Syed Saddiq

'Sleeping partners' will now have to shoulder the responsibility for corrupt practices in a company.

This following the implementation of a new law on corporate liability that will make them responsible as well, should the company be involved in such activities.

The MACC says this will minimise room for corruption as companies will be afraid if there was a report lodged with authorities, following investigation based on the audit reports.
