Malaysia records surge in COVID-19 cases

Sep 07, 2020

62 new COVID-19 cases were reported today, raising Malaysia's number of active infections to 207.

56 were local transmissions, including 50 from the Benteng cluster in Lahad Datu, Sabah.

Meanwhile the Health Ministry says the spike in cases there was due to crowded lockup facilities in Lahad Datu.

According to the Health Director General, the cluster can be traced back to two undocumented migrants who were then held in custody at the Lahad Datu police HQ last month.

In addition, the Ministry has also detected a new cluster in Kedah, called the Sungai Cluster.

The death toll still stands at 128.
