Efforts being focused to control Covid-19 in the Peninsular

Nov 12, 2020

The Health Ministry is now focusing its efforts on containing the spread of Covid-19 in the peninsular, specifically the Klang Valley and Negeri Sembilan.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says that while Sabah is still the state with the highest number of new cases, the infection trend is falling.

The Klang Valley and Negeri Sembilan, on the other hand, accounted for over 400 of the 822 new Covid-19 infections reported yesterday.

Dr. Noor Hisham also says containing the spread of Covid-19 in the Peninsular is more challenging compared to Sabah.

Some of the factors behind this include the high population density and high mobility in the peninsular.

He adds that cases also tend to not be confined to one area…which is why it was crucial to implement travel restrictions under the CMCO.

Passengers free to sit where they want

There is no ruling that says a passenger must sit in the back seat of a car when travelling during the CMCO.

The Senior Minister for Security explained that there shouldn’t be an issue as long as there are a maximum of two occupants in the car, from the same household.

He also rubbished a viral video of a man claiming to have been fined for having a passenger in the front seat, clarifying that the motorist was issued a fine for using his phone while driving.

The UK has become the first country in Europe to record more than 50 thousand Covid-19 fatalities.

It is only the fifth country in the world to reach the grim milestone, after the US, Brazil, India and Mexico.
