EC sets Bugaya, Gerik by-election dates

The Election Commission is targeting a 70 percent voter turnout for the upcoming simultaneous by-elections in Gerik, Perak and Bugaya, Sabah.

The EC says that nomination day will fall on January 4th, while polling day will take place nearly 2 weeks later, on 16th January.

It adds that face-to-face campaign activities, like talks, house to house visits and walkabouts are NOT allowed, because of COVID-19 risks.

Instead, candidates are encouraged to limit their campaigns to social media.

The Gerik parliamentary seat, and Bugaya state assembly seat fell vacant following the deaths of their incumbents.
