Another Covid-19 vaccine deal to be sealed soon

The government will conclude an agreement with UK-based AstraZeneca tomorrow to buy Covid-19 vaccines to meet the immunization needs of 20 percent of Malaysians.

The Health Ministry says this is the third agreement after the earlier deal with Covax for 10 percent of our vaccine needs, and with Pfizer to cover 20 percent of the country’s requirements.

Supplies are expected to arrive in the first quarter of next year.

This, as 1,153 new Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, more than 400 of which were recorded in Selangor.

It brings the total number of active cases in the country to 15,249.

There was also one additional fatality yesterday, taking our coronavirus death toll to 433.

March target for campus reopening 

University students are expected to return to their respective campuses by March next year.

The Higher Education Ministry says this has been proposed to the National Security Council, which will discuss and make a decision on the matter soon.

The Ministry told Berita Harian an official announcement will be made, once it receives the green light.

Floods hit the east coast

More evacuation centers have been opened in Terengganu and Kelantan, as the flood situation in these two states worsened.

There were more than 6,300 evacuees in Terengganu as at yesterday evening, with Kemaman being the worst affected district.

Kelantan, meanwhile, has more than a thousand evacuees.
