Govt dismisses claims that the cancellation of the ECRL project will negatively affect job opportunities for people in the East Coast.

The govt has dismissed claims that the cancellation of the East Coast Rail Link project will negatively affect job opportunities for people in the East Coast.

The Rural Development Ministry says there are many more projects which can generate employment opportunities, and NOT just the ECRL alone.

It says the govt is now upgrading the level of infrastructure especially in rural areas to enable its people to generate income without needing to move to other areas.

This comes after Pahang appealed to the Federal govt to reconsider the cancellation of the project.

Police report lodged over the 16 billion ringgit in missing tax refunds, which were revealed by MOF recently.

A Perak state assemblyman has lodged a police report over the 16 billion ringgit in missing tax refunds, which were revealed by the Finance Minister recently.

The Keranji MP says police should investigate, to see if the money was misappropriated. 

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said the previous govt had failed to refund excess income tax and real property gains tax to some 1.6 million taxpayers over the past 6 years.

This is on top of the 19.2 billion ringgit in missing GST refunds. 

In other news:

The 1MDB group has filed an application to the PJ High Court to sell the 1 billion ringgit yacht Equanimity.

According to Free Malaysia Today, the application stated that the sale was necessary due to the vessel’s high maintenance cost.

Jho Low's yacht was seized in Indonesia recently, and handed over to Malaysian authorities. 

And Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh has signed a partnership deal with the SK Global Entertainment, the production company that made Crazy Rich Asians. 

This includes producing, directing and select acting opportunities for Tan Sri Michelle.
