Kelantan bird flu blamed on cockfighting

Mar 15, 2017

The govt believes the H5N1 bird flu epidemic in Kelantan could have stemmed from cockfighting activities at border areas

The Veterinary Services Department says the case is similar to that in 2004, which also occured in Kelantan.

It believes the roosters infected came from neighbouring countries, and has urged the public to stop cockfighting activities, especially near the border.

Almost 16,000 fowls have been culled in Kota Bharu and Pasir Mas so far, while it's been confirmed that there is no H5N1 in Kuantan, Pahang.
