23 traffic offences to be included under AWAS

Apr 06, 2017

The JPJ says a total of 23 traffic offences will eventually be included under the Automated Awareness Safety System.

Currently, speeding and beating red lights are the only offences covered under AWAS.

Other offences which will be implemented in stages until the end of the year, include using a mobile phone while driving, not wearing safety belts and riding without a helmet.

Under the system, traffic offenders will be slapped with demerit points, leading to their licenses being suspended, and ultimately revoked.
