Malaysians exempted from Tourism Tax

Jul 26, 2017

Malaysians will be exempted from paying the Tourism Tax, which is expected to be implemented next month.

The Tourism and Culture Ministry says this follows earlier plans to exempt locals from paying the tax at hotels rated three-stars or lower.

Foreigners, however, will be charged a flat rate of 10 ringgit per night per room, regardless of where they stay.

Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz also says its now up to the Prime Minister to decide when the tax will be officially implemented.
