Guan Eng: SST will ease the rakyat's burden

Finance Minister, Lim Guan Eng says the reintroduction of the Sales and Service Tax is meant to ease the people’s burden.

He adds although it would mean less revenue for the government, it's more important that the people’s welfare is taken care of.

Speaking at a media briefing on SST, Guan Eng said many people wouldn't like his statement as the decision would put pressure on the government’s fiscal position.

The SST comes into effect tomorrow, following the repeal of the GST Act earlier this month.

Singapore knows of no plans for third link to Malaysia

Singapore says they have yet to receive any official proposal from Malaysia, on a third bridge linking both countries from the eastern side of Johor.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian says a proposal would first be sent to the federal government, before any decision is made.

The plan is to link Pengerang, Johor and Pulau Ubin in Singapore, via a three-kilometre bridge and an undersea tunnel.

The island nation is currently linked to Johor via the very busy Woodlands Causeway, and the Second Link Bridge at Tuas.
