News Wrap-up: Najib won't campaign in Balakong, Mat Sabu upholds integrity in MACC probe

Aug 15, 2018

Najib won't campaign for Balakong

Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has confirmed that he will not be on the ground to campaign for Barisan Nasional in the Balakong by-election next week.

This, after some party leaders reportedly advised him to refrain from going about campaigning for Barisan in by-elections, as seen in Sungai Kandis earlier this month.

However, the former Prime Minister admitted that he was only in Sungai Kandis upon request by Barisan candidate, Datuk Lokman Noor Adam.

The Balakong and Seri Setia by-elections will take place simultaneously, with nomination day on August 18th and polling day on September 8th.

Meanwhile, he says when a final decision is made, the government will offer their assistance, but only to local workers.

On another matter, Guan Eng has filed a motion in the Dewan Rakyat for the Auditor-General and the Public Accounts Committee to reopen investigations into the 1MDB scandal.

The motion submitted by the Bagan MP also asked for all related information to be made public.

It is expected to be tabled in Parliament tomorrow.

CUEPACS proposes new remuneration system for civil servants

CUEPACS says it will submit a proposal on a new remuneration system for civil servants to the government by the end of the year.

President, Datuk Azih Muda says the proposal will provide a clear path for their career development, including salary based on academic qualification and on improving the welfare of retirees.

On another matter, it is urging the government to reconsider the proposal by the previous government to close down the nine Teacher Training Institute (IPG) campuses in the country.
