Govt to maintain electricty rates until next year

You won't have to worry about higher electricity tarrifs anytime soon.

The govt says despite higher costs, the tarriff wil be maintained at least until the end of the year. 

The  Science, Technology, Climate Change and Environment Minister says, the higher cost will be absorbed by a special fund named Kumpulan Wang Industri Elektrik.

The tariff in Malaysia is reviewed every six months and the next one is set for January next year. 
 

Ministry looks at zero food waste policy

The govt may require supermarkets and hypermarkets to distribute excess food items to the needy, instead of simply throwing them away.

The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry says it will look at similar systems in the US, France and Singapore.

It's part of a zero waste policy that the ministry is drafting. 
 

Beijing denies Jho Low is in Mainland China

China has denied reports that Malaysian fugitive Jho Low is now in hiding in the mainland.

This, after Hong Kong media claimed that the buisinessman fled to the mainland, from Macau. 

Jho Low, who has an international arrest warrant is wanted for questioning over the 1MDB scandal.

Cabinet okays LRT3 project

The Finance MInistry says the Cabinet has given the greenlight for the LRT3 project, which links Bandar Utama to Kang, after Prasarana slashed the cost by nearly half. 

The Finance Ministry says this will save the govt some 15 billion ringgit in funds. 

Thai cave could be turned into a museum

The cave complex in northern Thailand where 12 boys and their football coach were trapped for more than two weeks is set to be turned into a museum.

Rescue officials say it would showcase how the operation unfolded.

Meanwhile at two companies are looking to make movies based on the rescue, one of them from the team behind the rom-com Crazy Rich Asians. 

All 13 of the group were rescued earlier this week and they are all recovering in hospital.
