Maszlee Malik: There is no place for teachers who abuse their students

The Education Ministry will not protect teachers accused of sexual abuse.

Minister Dr. Maszlee Malik says he has zero tolerace for such teachers, and does not want them in Malaysian schools. 

He also urged parents of abused children to come forward and lodge police reports, so that strict action can be taken against such teachers.

This, after recent reports of teachers being arrested for sexually abusing their pupils.

Anwar Ibrahim completes shoulder operation

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has successfully undergone a shoulder operation in Turkey.

His daughter, Nurul Izzah Anwar says he will return to Malaysia once doctors give him a clean bill of health. 

Meanwhile, on Datuk Seri Anwar's current status, the Permatang Pauh MP says doctors will issue a statement in due time.

Government closes in on child marriages

The government aims to introduce tighter rules on child marriages within a month. 

The Prime Minister's Dept says it's a stop-gap measure to discourage child marriages, while authorities come up with new laws to ban them permanently. 

This, following the huge public outcry after a 40-something man in Kelantan took an 11-year-old Thai girl as his third wife.

SST may not raise airline ticket prices

The reintroduction of SST probably won't lead to a rise in airline ticket prices.

Malaysia Airlines says this is likely, if the incoming tax regime is similar to the previous SST, which exempted plane tickets. 

But for now, the airline says it's still waiting for guidance from the Customs Department, before making any further moves.
