Every state to have a special court to hear child abuse cases

Dec 11, 2017

The Federal Court plans to establish a special court to hear child sexual crime cases in every state.

According to the Star, all 12 branches of the Special Criminal Court on such cases will be set up by the end of next year.

The idea behind the establishment was prompted by the rise in the number of charges filed since it started operations six months ago.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister's Department will be introducing new SOPs on child protection and handling of such sexual offences this Wednesday.

The SOPs will include support services for the child and the role of child counsellors in helping victims to deal with their trauma.
