Diabetes cases in Malaysia are on the rise

Nov 14, 2017

Diabetes prevalence in Malaysia was only 1 to 2 percent in 1960 and skyrocketed to 17.5 percent this year.

According to the National Health and Morbidity Survey conducted in 2015, almost one in five Malaysian adults have diabetes.

Dr Juliena Mohd Zaini of the Health Ministry is urging people to check their glucose levels at least once a year.

She adds people should practice a healthy lifestyle, consisting of a well-balanced diet, and regular exercise a minimum of 30 minutes a day to reduce the risk of developing the disease.

World Diabetes Day is celebrated on this day every year, in response to growing concerns over escalating diabetes cases.
