Nadal through to the second round of Australian Open

Jan 15, 2018

World No.1 Rafa Nadal is through to the second round of the Australian Tennis Open, after a straight sets win over Victor Estrella Burgos.

This is Nadal's first competitive match since pulling out of the ATP Tour Finals with knee trouble in November.

Nadal's bid for a second Australian Open title and 17th grand slam championship, will continue against Argentine Leonardo Mayer in the second round.

Earlier, olympic gold medalist Monica Puig made the second round after beating home favourite Samantha Stosur.

Elsewhere in the women's draw, Belinda Bencic pulled off the biggest upset of the day, knocking out last year's finalist Venus Williams.
