Tun M announces more efforts to reduce Malaysia's debt

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says the government is setting up a special 'Hope Fund', for Malaysians who want to do their bit to help reduce the country's debt level. 

Among other things, RON 95 and diesel prices will be maintained while the price of RON 97 will be floated according to market forces.

Meanwhile, BR1M payments will be maintained but under the new name "Cost of Living Aid". 

The Prime Minister also announced that all Malaysians will enjoy a 50% toll discount for all highways nationwide for two days before Raya.

He said that a special Hari Raya payment of RM400 for low-ranking civil servants and RM200 for pensioners.

In response, the Kelantan government has announced a special Raya payment of RM500 for its state civil servants. 

While Johor's civil servants will receive RM1000.
