Man who marries 11-year-old could face charges under Syariah law

Jul 02, 2018

The 41-year-old man who married an 11-year-old girl without the consent of the Syariah court could be charged under the Islamic Family Law Enactment 2002.

The Kelantan Syarie DPP says the marriage was in violation of the enactment as the man didn't get the consent from the court to wed the child and permission from his two other wives for polygamy.

He adds that the man can be charged under the enactment which carries a maximum penalty of six months in prison and a RM1,000 fine.
