Police to set up a special unit to investigate fake news cases

The police will set up a dedicated unit to investigate cases of fake news, if it's needed.
This comes days after the Anti-Fake News Act of 2018 was officially gazetted into law.
The IGP says for now, such cases will be handled by CID and the Commercial Crimes Dept.
This, as police are investigating their first case under the new law.
Johor police say it involves a hoax, claiming that the Tunku Mahkota Johor would be footing the bill of shoppers at several supermarkets in the state.
