Voting on a working day is nothing new

Apr 12, 2018

Holding the general election on May 9th is nothing new.

The Election Commission says there have been several instances in the past where polling day fell on a weekday, such as in 1959, 1982 and 1999.

The PM's Office's declared yesterday, that Wednesday May 9th will be a public holiday for the peninsular and Labuan.

Meanwhile, the Union of Teachers in the Malaysian Education Service has called on the Education Ministry to allow schools to close on the day before elections.

This is so the buildings can be prepared to be used as polling centres the next day.

Also, a furniture retail outlet in Singapore has announced it's giving its Malaysian staff an extra day of leave, so that they can go home and vote.
