5-10% discounts for new homes

Good news for prospective homeowners, as the costs of new homes could fall between 5 and 10 per cent.

It's because construction services and building material costs are exempted from SST. 

The Finance Minister says the discounts are only applicable to newly launched homes, and does not include low-cost housing projects.

As for units that have been built, Lim Guan Eng says the public will have to wait until Budget Day this Friday.

Child car seats will be "a must" by 2020

Parents will be required to install child seats in their cars by 2020.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke is in talks with the government for safety gear to be exempted from SST, so parents will find them more affordable.

Meanwhile, starting next year, the government will start to hold awareness campaigns to educate the public about the importance of child seats.

However, it hasn't decided on the penalty or punishment for those who fail to comply.

Tengku Adnan dismisses links with controversial KL land sale

Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has washed his hands of of the controversial sale of land in Kuala Lumpur, during Barisan Nasional's rule. 

The former Federal Territories Minister said he had nothing to do with the sales.

Instead, he says the deals were approved by the Prime Minister's Deperment.

Tengku Adnan also mentioned that he was called up 12 times by the MACC over the matter.

Syrian Hassan al-Kontar faces being deported

The Immigration Department is planning to deport Syrian refugee Hassan al-Kontar, who was staying in KLIA 2 for seven months this year, in two-months' time.

However, it declined to name the country willing to accept the 36-year-old, who is wanted by Syrian authorities for refusing to join mandatory military service.

The man is currently in immigration custody.

SAR team recovers bodies from Lion Air crash in Indonesia

A search-and-rescue team has recovered 24 bodies, plane debris and personal items, in the sea north of Jakarta where a Lion Air plane crashed yesterday.

However, the operation failed to find any parts of the main wreckage of the aircraft, which went down with nearly 190 people on board.

So far, there have been no reports of Malaysians being on board the aircraft.
