Warrant issued for Shahidan Kassim's arrest

Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim has to present himself at the Sessions Court in Kangar, Perlis on Monday to face charges, believed to be related to a molest case.

This, after the former government minister failed to appear at the court today, prompting the court to issue a warrant for his arrest.

Shahidan's lawyer claimed they were not informed of the court date, and adding that his client is currently overseas.

The impending charges are thought to be related to allegations that he molested an underaged girl last month. 

Shahidan denies any wrongdoing.

Maszlee Malik agrees to give up IIUM presidency

Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik has agreed to step down as president of International Islamic University Malaysia.

His aide told Free Malaysia Today it will happen once a suitable replacement is found.

Maszlee's appointment in September was opposed by several quarters, who claimed it went against the Pakatan government's promise to not put politicians in charge of academic institutions.

Two-months' jail for man who put nephew in washing machine

The man who stuffed his young nephew inside a washing machine will have to spend time behind bars. 

A court in Hulu Selangor sentenced him to two-months' jail for reckless endangerment, over the prank that went wrong.

The incident happened in Rawang last month - the man put the boy inside one of the washing machines at a 24-hour laundromat and closed the door.

The door was locked automatically and the todder was trapped inside for 10 minutes, until workers broke the washing machine's glass panel.

Selangor police launch search for suspects in 3-year-old boy abuse case

Selangor police are hunting down two suspects linked to the death of a 3-year-old boy who was allegedly abused. 

They are the boy's 20-year-old mother and his 31-year-old stepfather. 

According to the Selangor CID chief, the duo ran off on a motorcycle, after dropping the dropping the unconscious toddler off at the Ampang Hospital yesterday. 

He was pronounced dead at the scene, and doctors found bruises on his body.

Singapore central bank files police report over 1MDB article

Singapore's central bank has lodged a report with the country's police force, over an article linking its Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong with the 1MDB scandal. 

The article, published in a Singaporean portal, claimed that Malaysia signed several unfair agreements with Singapore, in exchange for assistance from Singaporean banks to launder 1MDB funds.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore described the article as false and malicious.
