Of petrol subsidies and traffic summonses

The government is expected to carry out a pilot test first, before the official implementation of the targeted petrol subsidy,

The test is crucial to ensure the new mechanism will run smoothly at all petrol stations.

The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry targets to have the petrol in place by the second quarter of next year, as planned.

Owners of cars with a capacity of 1,500cc and below and motorcycles of 125cc and below, will get a petrol subsidy of 30 sen a litre for RON95.

63,000 summonses after AWAS

63,000 summonses were issued by the JPJ between September 1st and last week, under the Automated Awareness Safety System, AWAS.

The Transport Ministry says 93 percent of the summonses were for speeding. 

53 thousand of the summonses were issued to cars, followed by motorbikes and other vehicles.

Book voucher scheme for uni students continues

The Education MInistry says the Cabinet has agreed to maintain the book voucher scheme for eligible uni students. 

The scheme was introduced to help ease the financial burden of students at IPTs.
